Rolex GMT Master II
What is so special about the Rolex GMT Master II, and what sets it apart from other watches, you might want to know? Well, perhaps the best way to answer that question is to delve a little deeper into the history of this fabulous watch and why it was created in the first place. This watch forms part of the Rolex range of watches known as the Oyster Perpetual Collection and it was first created in 1956. The reason the Rolex company decided to come out with this type of watch was to assist pilots as they traveled through multiple time zones, and always had to adjust their watch at every stop-over, which posed to be a huge nuisance for them. This watch sorted out all these issues. Of course this was the initial Rolex GMT Master and not the second addition to the range.
The Rolex GMT Master II only came out in the year of 1983, and was merely a newer and improved model to the earlier one in the range. It was a watch that can't be damaged easily, as it is produced from Sapphire Crystal, which is extremely strong material and resists scratching to a great degree. Today there is another even newer version of this same watch, and it made from stainless steel and a ceramic bezel. The hands on the watch face are 24-hour operating and there is also a unique maxi dial for ease of use. The remarkable GMT watch can display two alternate time zones at any one time and the latest model of the Rolex GMT Master II can unbelievably display three individual time zones, by implementing a rotating bezel in two directions simultaneously.
The way that the Rolex GMT Master II can have three time zones displayed together is by having this rotating bezel going from zero right up to twenty-three, and because it rotates bi-directionally, this allows for the first two time zones to be displayed. The third time zone is shown by way of letting one set the GMT hand separately from the main hour hand. There is also an additional feature of a compass on the watch, which allows one to get ones' bearings, wherever you might be in the world. The very first of these watches was created alongside the Pan American World Airways, so that they could present each of their pilots with one of the watches for convenience-sake when traveling across time zones. Nowadays, travelers find this watch a great help and it is primarily bought and worn by people who travel vastly.
If you compare the original watch
to the latest, more modern Rolex GMT Master II, you will undoubtedly
notice the larger hands, added features and fine golden layer on
the numbers within the bezel, giving one a beautiful watch that
is timeless in more ways than one and is the perfect gift for anyone,
whether they would make use of its intricate functions or just admire
it and wear it for its aesthetic value.
