Rolex President
The Rolex President is a watch like no other - created for the ultimate gentleman, but interestingly enough this time-keeping masterpiece is known by a completely different name in its hometown of Geneva, Switzerland. It is called the Day-Date in this area. The watch is exquisite in every way, from its smooth, sleek façade to its perfect screen - it truly is the ultimate in the Rolex range. An interesting question that might be on your mind at present would be "Why do we, in the United States of America, call the Day-Date watch the President?" Well, this is in itself a fascinating story and one that every person who is even remotely interested in the different Rolex models would like to hear and think about when talking about the Rolex President watch - a legend in its own right, and definitely amongst the classier watches available out there today.
Many people say that the reason why we call the Day-Date the Roles President is because of the unique and beautiful clasp that holds the watch together comes originally from bracelet made with gold links, which was known as the President wristband and it holds the watch together - and is not found in any of the other Rolex watch models whatsoever - making it completely unique to this watch. Another reason, that is more widely noted by people in the industry is that Rolex gave our President Dwight Eisenhower a Day-Date watch as a gift, and the name for this model thus caught on in the United States as the President watch, or Rolex President. As time went on, other United States presidents favored this same watch, until it became the obvious thing to call this the President watch. The presidents that were proud owners of a Rolex President include Richard Nixon, Franklin Delano Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy, as well as Gerald Ford.
The trend seemed to escalate, as
Hollywood bought into the desire for stars and celebrities to start
owning the Rolex
President watch. Tom Cruise is one such actor who owns one of
these watches, and in the film, Carlito's Way, Sean Penn's character
also wore this stunning watch. If any of you have seen the film,
The Burglar, you might have noticed that Whoopi Goldberg also wore
one - although hers was a ladies version of the same Day-Date watch.
This watch was first created and available to the consumers' market
in 1956, although obviously the model has been improved upon since
then. Today, you can get a wide range of different versions of the
same Rolex President, such as they type of material it is made from
- yellow gold, white gold, pink gold, bezel and even platinum are
some of the options available today. One thing that is certain about
the Rolex
President though, and that is that once you own one of them,
you can definitely say that you have officially arrived.
