Rolex Stainless Steel
Time is important to many people these days and being on time can sometimes mean the difference between success and failure in the world of business. But in general time is important for many social responsibilities as well. To help them keep time people have created a variety of strange devices throughout time. Some of these things were big, bulky and very complex while some were simply ingenious little devices. From these large devices the smaller watch has evolved that we all know today. Even they come in variety of shapes and sizes from the simple to the expensive and high quality stainless steel Rolex. But not matter the shape or size of the watch, they all do the same thing - tell time.
Some of the first timepieces on the world were water clocks. These ingenious devices were filled with water and drops of water would then siphon off. These timepieces were calibrated that each drop of water would fall at the same rate. By reading the level of the water on the water clock, person could determine how much time has passed. This was very useful for early alchemists and blacksmiths. In the same vein, but a lot drier, was the timekeeping candle. Like the water clocks they would burn down and reading the candle would determine the time that has passed. While these devices might not have been as precise as a modern stainless steel Rolex, they were one of the first ways that people could mark the passing of time.
The sundial is probably the next timekeeping device that most people are familiar with. This simple device consists of a disk and an upright piece that casts a shadow. As the sun moves across the sky, the shadow cast by the upright piece would move around the disc to indicate the time of day. The major problem with these timepieces was obviously that they could not be used at night and that they had to be calibrated differently depending on which part of the world you are in. Still not as precise as a stainless steel Rolex, but they were definitely an upgrade from the first pieces.
It was not until the 15th century that mechanical and spring-loaded watches were really used by many people. From these early ones the modern wristwatch, like the stainless steel Rolex evolved. These early watches had to be wound the whole time to keep the gears moving but they were generally quite precise and could be used no matter what the time of day was. The digital era introduced the most precise watches you could ever desire. From digital timepieces to analog watches with oscillating quartz crystals to keep the time perfectly, time is on it way to being well and truly captured.
From water clocks to stainless
steel Rolexes, humanity has been seeking ways to keep time for
ages. And as they become more precise so too does the importance
of time. Now, if we could only find a way to save spare time and
use it when you run out of time…
