Uboat Chronograph Watch

You've all heard about the famous Uboat Chronograph watch, but many of you may not know exactly what a chronograph watch is all about, where it was first created and how it was eventually adopted by the watch making world at large to become the norm today. Well, let's start at the very beginning. The word "Chronograph" actually has its roots in the Greek language meaning time and writing, or time measuring. What this means is that one can pause one of the hands at a certain point to view the amount of time that has lapsed and take a reading from this. The chronograph watch was first invented in 1821, so it's not that old an invention in the bigger scheme of things after all. It was created by a Frenchman called Rieussec, who was actually awarded with a patent to protect his invention, although we all know that patents only last so long before they are made available to the rest of the industry.

You probably better know your Uboat Chronograph watch as a stopwatch, which is what we commonly call chronographs today. The first time that the chronograph became an actual wristwatch was only in the year of 1910 and since then it has gained an immense amount of popularity, with virtually every watch having a stop on it today. The main reason for their popularity is that they have the unique ability to measure time in alternate ways to normal clocks and watches. The way it works is that there is one main hand and then smaller hands that can be stopped; yet they do not disturb the regular time-keeping function of the main dial. There is usually a separate stop and start button somewhere on the wristwatch that start the second hands ticking and thus measuring the amount of time you wish to record.

That's the basic history behind your Uboat Chronograph watch and other stopwatches as well. But since those early days when the stopwatch was first invented, many improvements have been made to it and to wristwatches in general. Today, virtually all wristwatches are waterproof or water resistant at least, but back in the early days, this would have been an unheard of invention and deemed totally impossible if not a ridiculous suggestion. Before long, new chronographs were created that were resistant to magnetic influences and weren't completely messed up when the watch was subjected to even the slightest magnetic fields. Although, we practically all have a stopwatch, after they were around for just a short period of time, mainly sportsmen used them to train and better their times and the military used them as well.

Now you have a greater understanding of the history of the chronograph watch and you will probably never look at you Uboat Chronograph watch quite the same again, as you know its intricate history that allowed you to now own such a practical and easy to use watch. Whether you plan to time yourself jogging or go diving, your watch is the ultimate in convenience.
