Used Breitling Watch
If you're considering buying a
used
Breitling watch, you may be interested to hear a little more
about this wonderful watch making company and how it first started.
It all began in the year of 1884, in Switzerland (where most of
the best watch making and producing companies in the world originated),
where a man by the name of Leon Breitling started making watches
in a very small workshop within the Jura Mountains. His specialty
lay in creating intricate chronograph pocket watches for industry
and science alone. As his workshop started gaining popularity and
a certain following, he decided to move down into the very centre
of Switzerland in La Chaux-de-Fonds, which was an area where many
watchmakers practiced and had their own shops and workshops. Leon
Breitling unfortunately passed away in the year of 1892, but his
son Gaston Breitling took over the workshop and really got it going.
Gaston Breitling started producing
wristwatches of his father's pocket watch design with the accurate
chronograph (this is where your used
Breitling watch comes into the story!) for the aviators to purchase
during the First World War, as he saw it as a chance to get recognized
and make some money by creating these wristwatches for the fighter
pilots to use. In the year of 1932, Gaston Breitling's son Willy
Breitling took over the company, which was in fact turning into
a very successful family business at this time. Willy took his grandfather's
designs even further by creating unique push pieces for the stopwatches
or chronographs, as they were known in this time. His design was
so successful in fact, that he became the official supplier to the
Royal Air Force in the year of 1936 - what an achievement!
If you haven't purchased a used
Breitling watch as yet, the Chronomat is one to look into. It
was first produced in the year of 1942 and it was unique in that
it had a specially placed slide rule within it and in the same year
that this watch was created, Breitling increased his client base
to include the American Armed Forces as well. Twenty years after
the introduction of the Chronomat, the Navitimer was created, which
had superb navigational capabilities that could calculate a range
of figures that pilots needed. Breitling's one watch, the Cosmonaute
made its way into outer space in the year of 1962, when the famous
astronaut Scott Carpenter wore the watch when he launched in the
Aurora Seven Space Capsule, giving Breitling an immense amount of
publicity for his company.
Your used
Breitling watch comes from an outstanding company and range
of watches that have traveled the globe and beyond - not many watch
owners can say that! But there's more to the wonderfully rich history
of the Breitling Company, because in the year of 1969, Breitling
produced a self-winding stopwatch, which was a massive breakthrough
for the Swiss watch making industry! Breitling passed away after
a successful career and the company was taken over by a man called
Ernest Schneider in 1979.
